Jackson was an Artist and a Maritime Historian. His nautical research for his pictures is almost equivalent to preparing a thesis. He may have made nine drawings before his is ready to start the final painting. Jackson's designs and plans, as well as sketches of ships painted, are storaged at The Oregon Historical Society.
