Lord of the Rings Framed Barad-dur Sideshow Weta Signed Peter Jackson John Howe

This listing is for a framed art print from The Lord of the Rings , which was produced by Sideshow/Weta in 2004. It features the Ringwraiths patrolling Mordor near Barad-dûr, with Mount Doom simmering in the background.

This print has been personally signed by director Peter Jackson, Weta Workshop's Richard Taylor, and artist John Howe. And most importantly, it also includes an original strip of 35mm film from the private collection of Peter Jackson himself! The bottom of the frame has a button that lights up the filmstrip when pressed. Because these were taken from an original print of the film, no two filmstrips are the same. This particular strip features Gollum in the Dead Marshes, watching as a Ringwraith flies overhead. Only 500 were made, of which this is #492. The artwork measures approximately 15" x 18", and the outer frame measures 27" x 27.5". The original Certificate of Authenticity is included.

It's never been hung, so there's no fading to the print. Overall, it's in great condition.

But there are a few minor flaws worth mentioning. The back of the frame has some rubbing/scuffs from storage. The front of the frame has a few scuffs on some of the "bumps" in the wood - but this may be a deliberate part of the antique-style texturing. There is a tiny scuff to the glass in the top-left corner. There are a few very faint stains on the fabric interior, which have always been there.

A few flecks of paint came off the plaque during framing, and can be seen floating below it. I'm always extremely concerned about battery leakage on things like this. The electronics and battery looked clean, but there were some very minor stains on the paper beneath it, possibly from battery leakage. Alkaline batteries are very leak-prone, so I immediately removed the battery and replaced it with a lithium battery to prevent future leaks. Today as I was taking pictures, I decided to replace it with a fresh lithium battery, which has a ten-year life expectancy.

So you can feel confident that leaking batteries won't be an issue anymore. And since I took care of it years ago, this one is likely in better condition than most.

I'd be especially worried about a frame that still has the original 15-year-old alkaline battery inside. When this arrived, I noticed that the plastic pouch for the COA was sticking to the ink on the paper.

I worried that over time, it'd lift the ink off completely, so I removed the COA and placed it in a proper archival sleeve before it could get any worse. So this COA is probably in better shape than most, because it was removed very early. None of these flaws are significant. If you look at the first few photos, you'll see that these problems are essentially invisible when looking at the print as a whole.

You really have to hunt for them. Most of these issues were present when the item arrived, so it's safe to assume that most prints have similar issues. I just want to be as honest as possible. I've taken closeup photos of the problems, so you can see them in detail.

The winner will receive the exact item in the photos, so please refer to those for a closer look. Thank you for viewing this listing!
