Museum c 1840-50s Snakes & Songbirds ALBUM Applique Quilt Antique Signed Jackson Wright. A one in a lifetime quilt find this amazing album applique quilt which was found in the Delaware Valley between Pennsylvania and New Jersey. Possibly came up from the Maryland area. It has an incredible design that many of my quilt colleagues have never seen. The pattern it pieced together with all sorts of original blocks like a puzzle.

This theme is certainly different and one of a kind. Possibly made to be a wedding quilt, but others I spoke with think it also might have some significant historical value since its signed Jackson Wright. They were hinting toward a connection to Andrew Jackson our 7th President. They noticed in the quilt a speckled snake and many birds. Snakes seem to be getting ready to enjoy a meal with a bird or critter.

Speckled Snake was the Indian tribe leader during the "trail of tears" who gave the speech for the Indians to move. This was under Jackson's term. Defenseless birds and slithering snakes.

Maybe some sort of symbolism. Or possibly a wedding quilt to join together a couple by the names of Jackson and Wright.

Certainly, more research is needed for this very special quilt. The quilt has 20 birds, two snakes that coiling, eagles, songbirds, lovebirds, hearts, woman, willow tree, berries, fruit, birds in the nest, birds getting ready to be eaten, squirrel, flowers, foliage and a border that vines! One block shows an eagle capturing a critter, two blocks with snakes getting ready for a meal, a squirrel holding a very large meal, Momma bird feeding her young and beautiful flowers. Each border has a lily or tulip flower.

The border is quite interesting with a vining design and flower blocks that come out of the border. All blends into an amazing picture. I feel like every inch of this was designed to have an element and flowing together as an amazing piece of art work.

Measures 87 x 75 inches. Hand quilted at 8-9 stitches per inch.

The applique is hand sewn. Fabrics are turkey red, cheddar, green, some brown and blue prints.

Age/other spotting tanning, fabric wear, some seam openings, color lift and binding has wear. Over 70 pictures to view..... Please no copying or using photos without permission, Thank you!
